CONCERTO and CMCC are looking for scientists in Ecophysiology, Ecosystem and Carbon Cycle Science

CONCERTO’s partner, the CMCC Foundation (Centro Euro-Mediterraneo sui Cambiamenti Climatici), is inviting applications for four research positions within its Impacts on Agriculture, Forests and Ecosystem Services (IAFES) Division. The positions are based in Milan or in one of CMCC’s offices across Italy, with hybrid or remote working arrangements available.

These roles represent an opportunity to contribute to high-impact, interdisciplinary research at the cutting edge of ecosystem science, ecophysiology and carbon cycle modelling. The successful applicants will join the international team of the CONCERTO project, working to advance multi-scale modelling and the use of Earth observation to improve carbon cycle representation.

Researchers will contribute to one of several key scientific areas, including ecophysiological responses to environmental stresses, modelling of lateral carbon dynamics, ecosystem impacts of heat and atmospheric conditions, refining light and water stress functions in land surface models using Solar-Induced Fluorescence, and large-scale assessments of land management and restoration using remote sensing. Applicants are invited to indicate their preferred topic and seniority level in their cover letter.

The initial appointment period is 12 months, with the possibility of renewal following a positive evaluation. Compensation is competitive with leading European research centres and includes welfare benefits. Eligible candidates may also benefit from national tax incentives for researchers returning to Italy or arriving from abroad.

CMCC is an equal-opportunity employer and strongly encourages applications from all qualified candidates, including those belonging to legally protected categories. Applicants are kindly asked to avoid including personal data that may be considered discriminatory.
